The villa half is self-guided and untimed. You can walk into the house museum and the botanical garden at any point during the villa's opening hours, and the operator's own itinerary allows about two hours for it — which is about right if you want the rooms as well as the terraces.
The Bellagio half is timed, and that is the part to plan around: the slot you choose at booking is when the tasting begins, not when the villa visit does. The crossing takes about twenty minutes on the public ferry, plus five minutes' walk at each end. The tasting itself runs roughly ninety minutes and pours three Lombard wines with a platter of local cold cuts and cheeses.
